Looking down upon the Nevada desert in the mid-1980s, Ronald F. Boeddeker, President and Chairman of Transcontinental Properties, Inc., envisioned a body of cool water surrounded by an unparalleled, Mediterranean resort destination showcasing mountains, homes, golf courses, hotels, gaming, restaurants, and boutiques. That vision has come to fruition in spite of the daunting challenge of building a dam in the middle of the desert, which was an engineering feat that was successfully accomplished in May 1991. In September 1988, construction began on Lake Las Vegas Resorts dam and a two-mile long bypass system. The bypass system is comprised of two pipes that are each 84 inches in diameter and two miles in length and was engineered to convey the flow of the Las Vegas Wash under Lake Las Vegas and into Lake Mead . The 18-story dam, that is approximately 150 feet high, contains nearly 4.1 million cubic yards of earth and took more than two years to build. Lake development was completed in 1994.
The site comprises of several 'home areas' in a different European style, for example one plot is known as 'Monaco'
Being only 17 miles from the Las Vegas strip, this community is likely to become very popular with people who have money to burn - Celion Dion has already purchased a property here.
Here is a PDF file which shows a map of the community plan.
Lake Las Vegas sure looks amazing though
Enjoy! Cheers, Phil, UK
