Andy Warhol died 20 years ago today. At 6.21 in the morning on February 22, 1987, in a private room, 1204, on the 12th floor of the Baker Pavilion at New York Hospital, the medical staff pulled a sheet over his famous face. He was 58. The silver wig on his bedside table was fairly new.

The six placemarks in this post track Warhol Industries from not-quite-factory to Factory to sort-of-factory and on to the hospital where he punched the clock. Zspot has already marked the graveyard in Pittsburgh.

Wikipedia has an entry on the most famous Warhol Factory, but as of this writing it's a mess. Best to look elsewhere on the Web for recollections of the places as best as the drug-addled regulars can remember them.

FEBRUARY 2008: A tip of the hat to mcmarshall for correcting the location of Warhol's original factory on 87th Street. He'd visited the spot after seeing a documentary and pointed out that the one-time firehouse is closer to Lexington Avenue than 3rd. Thanks, Matt!
